Annual Conference Corner - Call for Programs

April 27, 2016

Dear Colleagues,

I am excited to invite you to submit a program proposal for the 2016 CSPA-NYS Annual Conference which will be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Buffalo, New York. The Next Gen and Graduate Student Pre-Conference sessions are scheduled for Saturday, October 22nd and general conference sessions are scheduled for Sunday, October 23rd through Tuesday, October 25th. The conference allows an opportunity for presenters to offer sessions on best practices, emerging issues, and research findings and is an excellent professional development opportunity where you can develop skills, improve your practice, and network with other professionals throughout New York State.

The Annual Conference is open to all higher education professionals and educators in New York State and we want our sessions to reflect the varied interests, talents and experiences of our members. These presentations provide an excellent opportunity to showcase the purposeful work that is being done across the state. While it is not a requirement or prerequisite of approval for session submissions, we invite those submitting to include this year’s theme which is Rejuvenate, Restore, Reinvent.

We encourage you to also consider submitting programs for our pre-conference sessions including the two-hour educational workshop opportunity on Sunday morning. The Next-Gen and Graduate Student Pre-Conference sessions offer a unique opportunity to work and connect with the future leaders and educators in our field. For undergraduate students, topics could include applying to graduate school, understanding personal/professional values, and helpful tips and tricks about the field. For graduate students, you could consider presentations discussing making the most of graduate school, navigating the job search or transitioning from graduate student to full-time professional. The Sunday morning workshop option gives you an opportunity to explore deeper into specific topics that a traditional educational session does not allow. You can submit session proposals to be considered for all session options, which includes the pre-conference, two-hour workshop and general conference sessions.

Program proposals will be accepted online until Monday, June 20, 2016 at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NFWCFQV. All submissions will be reviewed confidentially and presenters will be notified in early July. The website also offers guidelines for program submissions, including a requirement that programs address at least of one of the professional competencies identified jointly by ACPA and NASPA in 2010.

Exciting incentives offered this year include a guaranteed early bird registration rate for every coordinating presenter and of those that submit a program proposal by the deadline of June 20, 2016, and is accepted, will be entered into a drawing to win a complementary CSPA-NYS Annual Conference registration. Also, each coordinating presenter not currently a CSPA-NYS member, regardless of being selected, will receive a complimentary one-year membership (new memberships only)! Lastly, one program from the CSPA-NYS conference will be selected and recognized forthe “Best of CSPA-NYS” award.

If you have any questions, ideas for topics you would like to see at the conference, or need additional information, please feel free to contact me directly at (607) 443-5554 or conferenceprogramming@cspanys.org.

We look forward to seeing you in Buffalo in October!

Sincerely,

Mary Holland
